Reliable outdoor ovens

When it comes to getting a new oven we can either choose to build one ourselves or we can simply order a pre-built one from a store. When building one from scratch we should be careful to use the right type of heat resistant plaster.

When it comes to getting a new oven we can either choose to build one ourselves or we can simply order a pre-built one from a store. When building one from scratch we should be careful to use the right type of heat resistant plaster.
Whenever we are trying to build a fireplace or an oven we have to decide on what type of materials to use. We should use different types of bricks depending on where we are going to use the oven and what we are going to use it for. Fire bricks are used in order to line the inside of the fireplace or the oven in order to keep the heat inside and not affect the things around it. Heat resistant plaster should be used for protection in areas that are most likely to exceed 50° and is mostly used for lining the area near the fire opening in Cassette fires. There are many types of bricks that we can use when building an oven: clay bricks, insulation bricks, dense and heavy bricks and heavy duty bricks. Every type has a specific resistance to heat with the clay bricks being the least resistant to high temperatures and the heavy duty bricks being the most resistant.
Medium duty bricks are more resistant to high temperatures and can therefore be used both in indoor and in outdoor ovens on the flooring and on the arch. This type of bricks can withstand up to 900° F and are great for ovens that will be used for baking bread, pizza and other goodies. If we think that we may need our oven to withstand more heat we can always turn to dense and heavy bricks that can withstand temperatures of up to 1300° C (2300° F). Clay bricks cannot withstand much heat and so it is recommended that we use them only on the exterior of the ovens or fireplaces, much like the use of the heat resistant plaster, as they are bound to crack if the temperature is too high. Heavy duty bricks usually contain alumina and their resistance to heat depends on the density of alumina used.
The alumina bricks have a high density and strength and are also resistant to thermal shock. They are greatly used for industrial furnaces and ovens but can also be used for domestic fireplaces, barbeques and outdoor ovens. Heat resistant plaster can be used to fix cracks that may appear on the outside of the fireplace or oven however if we want something that resists heat better we can use fire cement as well. If we do not want to spend too much on our new oven and still have a decent fireplace we can always use medium duty bricks or insulation bricks instead. We should be aware that these bricks, even though they can be used for indoor and outdoor ovens have low thermal conductivity and low heat storage properties and, as such, we can't expect them to stay heated for too long once the fire is out. On the other side this is a good thing since we won't have to worry about them for too long once the barbeque or pizza is ready.
