Starting today, Square Enix is offering gamers a two-week free trial that will let gamers experience the title. This can be done without having to need a subscription to play. However, there are some restrictions for those that check out the free trial. These players can only level up to level 20, and will have some in-game activities restricted. Regardless, this is a great chance for gamers to experience this great MMORPG.


Released for PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a reboot of the original Final Fantasy XIV Online, which was a failure. The game’s plot takes place after the ending of the original Final Fantasy XIV, as the world rebuilds after the primal Bahamut caused mass destruction. Gamers play as a chosen hero who must defend the land of Eorzea from an invasion by the Garlean Empire. Players are able to create a character from five different races: the human-like Hyur, the elf-like Elezen, the small Lalafell, the large muscular Roegadyn, and the cat-like Miqo’te. Players are able to choose from a number of classes, such as Conjurer, Lancer, and Archer. All of these classes are separated into four groups: Disciples of War, Disciples of Magic, Disciples of the Hand, and Disciples of the Land. After reaching a certain level, classes can be upgraded into more focused Jobs, opening new skills and abilities for characters to use.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available for PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The game does require a subscription in order to play. While there have been small updates adding content since the game released, a full expansion will be released for the game in Spring of 2015 titled Heavensword. The free trial has started today, and will last two weeks.

So can someone with more FFXIV experience chat with me about something? I feel that this game is very limited as far as classes are concerned. I played a lot of LOTRO and that game had excellent systems that let you drastically change the way a class played, still within their role.

With FFXIV I feel like the devs decided my strategy and only gave me the skills needed to implement that strategy. There aren't very many skills within each class either.

This game has a very interesting multiclassing system where you can take some skills from one class and use them with another. I haven't messed with it much, but are the skill class affinities loose enough to allow for a wider variety of class customization? I feel like the affinities still limit what a class might be able to do with foreign skills.

Feeling so restricted is hampering my experience with this game. There are no ways to try to implement different strategies, my OWN strategies. have a lvl 15 pug and a lvl 28 rogue btw. Just looking for some answers to kindle some hope that it'll get better. - Keanu_X.

In my experience, there are more classes then I have time to master. I only have my Paladin up to level 50 and haven't found much use for abilities from other classes (besides the Protect spell.) From what I've read, the strategy / playing style is fairly limited for each class, but I've put in a few hundred hours since release, and I've never become tired of the end game content as a Paladin (I probably play an average of 5 - 10 hours a week.)

Despite the options for each class being limited, there is a lot of strategy and nuance to the game that keeps it interesting. - Drumjod7
