Just today an article came out discussing the fact that some 63 million people have been exposed to dangerous toxins in their water during the past ten years.
But I want to caution you not to generalize as a result of reading this. There are widespread problems with drinking water, but you cannot generalize as to what these may be. In order to buy the best water filter for your situation you have to first correctly identify what is wrong with your water. Don’t assume.
I start that process by looking at your local water report and recommend that you do this too. The first thing I look at is the source of the water. If it is a river then you have different issues than if it is well water. Rivers often contain contaminants from cities or farming upstream. You have to know which set of problems you have before you buy a filter.
Next identify the specific contaminants in your water. These are found in the chart in the middle of the report.
Finally make sure you know what the city adds to your water. Chlorine and chloramine require different carbons to remove them. And the Trihalomethanes and Haloacetic acids you find listed in your report are also known carcinogens.
Equipped with this information you can determine which filter you need. Most people buy the wrong filter. When selecting a filter compare what it removes to what you’ve found with your research. By doing so, you can buy the best water filter for your needs.

Bacteria in City Water is causing sickness and death. Illness and Deaths due to contaminated city water has increaased, according to new reports by the Center for Disease Control. Interestingly, most of the problems stem from bacteria, in particular Legionella, which was also discovered in the water towers at Disney World just recently.
