Joblu: A Solid Replacement for Traditional Recruiting According to WP Engine

Joblu’s CEO Abhii Dabas appeared on an episode of Velocitize Talks in November 2022 to give his views on business, and his inspiration for Joblu. The episode highlights Joblu as a solid replacement for traditional recruiting.

Joblu’s CEO Abhii Dabas made an appearance on WP Engine’s highly esteemed digital marketing publication Velocitize Talks in November 2022 to give his views on web development, consumer experience, and the future of e-commerce. This episode highlights the Joblu app as Tinder meets TikTok, but for jobs.

Dabas mentioned that there is no shortage of employable people. Instead, he points out that the changes in society have not reflected the way people are hired.

“If you look at any employer, they will always say we can’t find the right candidates. If you speak with the candidates and the job seekers, they say we can’t find the right jobs. It’s definitely not a ‘numbers’ problem because we saw organizations attracting talent at the highest number possible. So what is the problem here?”

According to Dabas, he took the simplistic and enjoyable elements from beloved social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, and applied them to the job-seeking platform they developed. For Dabas, the issues in the job market do not stem from lack of employable people because the population is the highest it’s ever been. Instead, he emphasized that companies fail because they do not adapt to change.

“There are a lot of things that have changed in society but those changes are not reflected in the way people are hired,” Dabas stresses.

An example that Dabas has pointed out is that job seekers and employers are now equal, which was not the case, so mutual enjoyment was a key element in making the app.

He adds, “We’ve taken the ease or the fun of a dating app. We’ve taken the expression of a social network like TikTok or Instagram. But what we’ve done is seen how people lead their lives outside of jobs. Why can’t that fun and that ease be implemented in something like a job-seeking platform?”

Aside from mutual ghosting, Dabas’ eureka moment was conceived by listening to students who repeatedly voiced out concerns about having to make CVs because no one ever opens them. He further implies that dating apps have allowed people to find life partners, so he doesn’t see why it can’t be the same for the recruitment process.

“All these years, I’ve been listening to them (students) complaining about how they don’t want to work on their CVs. They send resumes but no one ever opens resumes. They get ghosted a lot, and employers get ghosted too. We find life partners through dating apps but we still send resumes.”

Dabas’ revolutionary idea has undeniably challenged the flawed recruitment system. As such, an article published on the Velocitize website considers Joblu as a “solid replacement for traditional recruiting.”
