Rembert, South Carolina (October 28, 2012) - Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent South-Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced it has completed installation of new putting greens on six holes of the Argent Lakes golf course at Sun City Hilton Head Resort in South Carolina.
The new 18-hole Argent Lakes Golf course is a 6,093-yard, par-61 course. “Argent Lakes is a top-notch short course, and we were excited to bring its greens up to a new standard of play,” said Hank Kerfoot, president of Modern Turf. “Hilton Head has so many terrific courses that have benefited from the conversion from bent-grass greens to Ultradwarf Bermudagrass. We have every confidence Argent Lakes will quickly make a name for itself with its new, must-play greens.”
The MiniVerde ultradwarf bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. The new grasses are tolerant of heat and of cold; they require less in the way of chemicals, fungicides and pesticides, and need less water. MiniVerde has been the top-rated bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials during the past several years.
Kerfoot added, “Ultradwarf grasses are a new strain that is completely revolutionizing golf today. Especially in areas like Hilton Head, where the weather may stay in the triple digits for weeks at a time, it’s crucial to have grasses that can tolerate sunlight, heat and drought. The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass is especially wear- and weather-resistant, and makes an ideal choice for the Argent Lakes course. The Club is making a significant investment, but their return should be realized for years to come.”
