Rembert, South Carolina (October 21, 2012) - Modern Turf, Inc., a South-Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced completed installation of new putting greens at the municipal Brainerd Golf Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The 6,468-yard, par-72 Brainerd Course was designed by Donald J. Ross and opened in 1926.
Hank Kerfoot, president of Modern Turf, said, “This is a well-respected, well-played golf course which happens to endure months of extreme heat and humidity. The bentgrass turf was, frankly, suffering. We recognized immediately that the course would benefit from the new strain of Bermudagrass, the number one turf in the sport today, and one none of us could have conceived of 85 years ago. “
The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials during the past several years.
Said Kerfoot, “A major project like this, particularly when municipalities are involved, takes a great deal of planning and cooperation. We are honored to have been a part of the renovation, and applaud the City of Chattanooga for their vision and collaboration.”
