Hazel Green, AL (October 15, 2012) - Airkooled Kustoms, an internationally-recognized classic Volkswagen restoration and customization shop, announces its seventh annual car show, Bugs ‘N Brats. The event will be held on the shop grounds in Hazel Green, Alabama on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Gates open at 10:00 a.m. for a day of family-friendly fun. The event is free to the public, featuring an engine blow, car contest, potluck picnic and barbeque. Guests can tour the car restoration shop, meet the Airkooled Kustoms Krew to ask questions about classic Volkswagens, shop for classic car t-shirts, and purchase a chance to win a 6-lap drive around Talladega Super Speedway.

Guests can purchase tickets for the engine blow 50/50 at registration. VW engine expert, Floyd Husband, has been hard at work bringing an unsalvageable engine back to life long enough for this highly-anticipated event. At 2:30 p.m., the engine will roar to life, and a timer will mark the seconds or minutes between ignition and complete engine failure. The 50/50 winner will be the ticket-buyer who guessed the time closest to the official engine failure time. The proceeds of the 50/50 will go to the Shelby Humane Society.

“We are proud to partner with the Shelby Humane Society as the beneficiary of this year’s engine blow. This fine organization has saved thousands of pets’ lives by making their adoption into loving families possible,” said Eric “Spook” LeClair, Airkooled Kustoms founder. Founded in 2006, the no-kill shelter’s volunteers have provided safe transport for nearly 6,000 pets from Shelby County to their forever homes in other states.

Guests may also purchase a chance to win the Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure prize, valued at $400. Chances cost $20 each, and the winner must be present to win. All proceeds will be donated to the Shelby Humane Society.

There is no entry fee for show cars. Local classic Volkswagen enthusiasts are encouraged to enter their vehicles for a chance to be awarded a crowd favorite trophy, designed and built by Jim “Snoopy” Walker.

Airkooled Kustoms is located at 458 Guy Wilson Road, (431/231 North to Pauline Drive, then straight onto Guy Wilson Road). Additional parking is available at the First Baptist Church of Hazel Green on Dickey Street. This is a family-friendly event, and alcohol is not permitted. Airkooled Kustoms is a drop-off spot for used cell phones to be donated to Crisis Services of North Alabama.
