A representative success story of Kangwon National University's Bridge Project (Support for commercialization of university creative assets, BRIDGE), which discovers promising technologies owned by university faculty and leads them to commercialization, is 'Doctor Oregonine'.
The company, which attracted attention by signing a supply contract worth 4.5 million dollars last June, was founded by Professor Choi Seon-eun (Department of Forest Biomaterials Engineering) in 22 years. It is releasing 15 types of anti-aging complex products for the treatment/improvement of muscle loss and obesity caused by the elderly based on raw materials extracted from domestically grown alder trees.
The company was created through the technology commercialization process established by Kangwon National University (discovery of excellent assets → commercialization development and business model (BM) design → IR and investment attraction → domestic and international marketing support).
Kangwon National University Bridge Business Group took notice of the excellent therapeutic effect of the technology developed by Professor Choi through the Korea Forest Service's 'Forest Resource Functional Raw Material Standardization Technology Development' project and supported his startup, as it had no allergies or side effects.
After the startup, Kangwon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Group transferred the related patented technology held by the company. It was a technology transfer contract worth a total of 430 million won in fixed technology fees. Afterwards, they began supporting investment attraction and national research and development project linkages. They helped him focus
solely on research by being selected for TIPS by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, U-Tech Valley by the Technology Guarantee Fund, R&BD for technology transfer in the Gangwon Chuncheon Gangso Research and Development Special Zone, Early Startup Package and Startup Leap Package by Kangwon National University's Entrepreneurship-centered University Business Group, and winning the R&D Rediscovery Project from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
The Bridge Business Group also put effort into marketing the launched products.
