What is the purpose of Narayan Nagbali? (Pitru dosh)
The rituals of Narayan Nagbali are divided into two categories. Narayan bali is performed to remove ancestral curses (Pitru dosh), while Nag bali is performed to remove sins committed by killing snakes, especially the Cobra, which is revered in India. Trimbakeshwar is the only place where it can be done.
The Narayan Bali ritual is performed to satisfy the unfulfilled wishes of ancestral souls who are trapped in the world and causing problems for their descendants. The ceremony of Narayan Bali is similar to that of a Hindu funeral. The artificial body is primarily made of wheat flour. Mantras are used to summon souls that are still bound to those wishes. The rite allows them to possess the body, while the funeral allows them to escape to another world.
The Nagbali ritual is performed to cleanse themselves of the sin of killing a nag (Cobra). The funeral is also held on the body of a snake made of wheat dough in this ceremony. Trimbakeshwar Narayan Nagbali is one of the most important rituals. This specific ritual should only be performed at Trimbakeshwar, according to ancient scriptures such as Dharma Sindhu, which defines various religious rituals. This age-old tradition is also stated in the Skandh Puran and the Padma Puran.
