Chemionix, a leading engineering design outsourcing company, successfully completed a detailed Electrical Engineering Design for a metallurgical project for a client based in South Africa. The client prepared the basic design and scope manuals, while detailed engineering services were provided by Chemionix’s team.

Challenges Faced
A significant challenge in this project was complying with the South African codes and standards for cables schedule, voltage ratings etc.

Chemionix Approach & Deliveries
The project was completed within 3 months. A senior electrical engineer was assigned as a project manager. A file transfer protocol was set up to ensure the smooth sharing of documents and Skype calls were primarily used for instant communication.

The project involved the design and drafting of electrical systems, including the preparation of Single Line Diagrams (SLD), cable size calculations and schedules, voltage drop calculations, and cable tagging.

Chemionix team followed the client's standard drafting and engineering documents to ensure that the CAD drawings were in line with the client's in-house standards. The team also completed the cable tray routing on a 3D model, lighting design calculations, emergency system design, and backup power calculations. Additionally, Chemionix team prepared MCC specifications, lighting looping and conduit diagrams, and an electrical Bill of Material take-off.

The electrical designs were submitted on a regular basis and reviewed by project managers for approval. Chemionix team received suggestions and modifications from the client and incorporated them into the design for approval.
