Dougal Thorburn is attempting to break the current world record for ‘running 10km with a pram’. The record stands at 34m 19s and was set in 2005. This will be a very exciting event as he plans to push his Chariot with his 2½ year old daughter Audrey inside in an attempt to break this long standing world record.

Dougal Thorburn is a national level distance runner and an enthusiastic sports person. Dougal has participated in many events in the past with great results. His energy is incredible, and he is looking forward to this weekend’s world record attempt.

On the 14th of October 2012, Dougal will attempt to break the world record for "Fastest 10km while pushing a pram". In order to beat the current world record, he will need to have a highly durable and high performance running pram. The outstanding performance and durability of a Chariot makes it the obvious choice as the best running pram possible for attempting to break this world record. They will line up with some of Otago’s best runners on Sunday morning at the New Balance Hill Free 10km race at Outram but unlike the other runners, Dougal will be pushing a Chariot running pram, with Audrey inside it!

The primary goal driving Dougal to succeed is the potential world record, but he has two other main reasons for doing this: The first is to promote sustainable (and high performance) transport & the second is to celebrate the good times he's had with his children. He is a particular fan of combining physical activity with transport and he advocates for replacing short car trips with active forms of transport like walking, running or cycling. "The more we can generate dialogue about weaving physical activity into the social and economic fabric of our society and communities, the better- for our bodies, minds, and environment", Dougal says.
