As a game design program that holds the first joint accreditation, in Canada, by The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) and the Canadian Council of Technician and Technologies (CCTT), graduates from the program may apply for certified membership to either CIPS or their provincial engineering technology association. This is important to advancing graduates' careers - as is the fact that The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists recognizes the undertaking as meeting all the academic requirements for certification in the Technologist category.

The focus of this program is to train students for roles as software testers or developers; game or computer programmers, systems or business analysts, web application developers, database administrators, and applications or software support by teaching them the range of phases of the game programming life cycle. Among the phases that students of Centennial College's program become familiar with are: game design, three-dimensional graphics programming, game engine design, multiplayer online game programming and more.

The program is conducted from Progress Campus, which includes labs equipped to enhance student learning and meet industry standards. Emphasized in the labs are: object-oriented software design methodologies, user-oriented interface design, Microsoft's .NET, DirectX, XNA, Flash, HTML5, software testing and QA, C#, Java, Java EE, Oracle, MS-SQL Server, Rational/ WebSphere, Mobile Application Development and more.

The game design course is complemented by two software development projects and a co-op experience. The projects are intended to allow students to apply newly acquired business and technician skills to build higher quality software. Meanwhile, co-op is an opportunity for academically qualified students to enhance their education by working as paid employees in the field.
