Posted December 9, 2013 by centennialcollege

This press release offers information about the Energy Systems Engineering Technician program offered at Centennial College. .

With society's changing views of how energy and environment interact, there are many reasons those who have attended energy systems engineering programs, such as Centennial College's Energy Systems Engineering Technician, are in demand. Firstly, the construction industry is adopting new green measures and new products are being produced that offer ways to implement advanced energy control in commercial and residential structure. This offering teaches students to integrate and use modern sustainable energy technologies in a manner consistent with this shift. Secondly, employers are seeking professionals who have a combination of technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills. These are the skills on which the program is focused. Lastly, a widening skilled-labour shortage in the energy sector is creating huge demand for technicians who can apply their technical, managerial and entrepreneurial skills to a breadth of knowledge across the mechanical, electrical, electronic and automation engineering fields.

The program teaches students skills to understand energy and its uses in modern society, which equips them to deal the operating practice shift that includes energy projects using small-scale sources such as solar, wind, hydro, fuel cells, gas turbines and biomass to feed electricity, heat and air condition to homes and businesses.

Students will find practical application approach useful as they study the topics in modern labs equipped with state-of-the-art energy systems. A technical curriculum is further supplemented by applied research and development projects. Because the projects employ a mock-industry approach, students become comfortable with some of the duties that they will perform on a regular basis once in the industry.

An energy systems technician is responsible for implementing energy solutions for commercial and residential buildings using knowledge of energy systems, energy efficiency and renewable/distributed energy systems; designing and maintaining heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration units; working with architectural companies to integrate energy technologies into the latest green buildings and more.
