Basketball- Indoor court

Spandan, one of India’s largest inter-school sport and cultural events, started off with the same enthusiasm that the participants had left with last year.
Day 1 begun with the Basket Ball match between the under 16 teams of Kohinoor American School and the home school, The Cathedral Vidya School, Lonavala. Considering the fact that KAS was on a foreign court, they did an amazing job. The home school, comfortable with the feel of the court and after months of practice, also played incredibly well, doubling their score between the first and second quarters. The last two quarters came to a standstill as neither of the teams scored a basket. The winner was CVSL, best IB curriculum school in Pune. After that, the girls match between Riverdale and CVSL team B was also very interesting; with the CVSL team B emerging victorious. The third match between the Under 18 boys match of CVSL and St. Michael was probably the most anticipated match of the day. Under 18 boys matches are always something that people look forward to. With the court full of spectators, the match kept everybody at the edge of their seat with the constant back and forth of the scores. In the end, the CVSL team won the match, beating their opponents, 26-12.
While some teams struggled to win their matches held between the best boarding schools in Mumbai, some teams were handed the victory by their opponents. 2 walk-overs on the first day of Spandan as teams either reported late, or not at all.
A tiring day, some teams happy with the outcomes, some disappointed, but all looking forward to Day 2 of Spandan 2018.

Outdoor Basketball Court

The basketball matches started in full swing, doing justice to the first day of Spandan so far. The players are deliberately getting ready for the heat they are going to face in the court. The under 16 boys’ matches began with the DSK team faces a crushing defeat against INS. The score stands by on 17-1, IBS taking the win. The toughest, longest match of the morning, ANDV vs INS. None of the teams were ready to accept defeat, until the ANDV players boosted themselves to the fullest blowing INS off in the dirt, the score, 36-23. Under 18 boys’ matches embarked with the UWC team has taken quite a strong lead over the KAS team as they shoot basket on basket in a matter of seconds. The match concludes with 27-3, the UWC team leaving as the victor. KHS and Saraf had a rough, long match. Both are running for their basket to win, but in the end, Saraf throws a basket in, winning by 21-15. Saraf against CJCS, a heated match at the start, leads to Saraf backing down as CJCS throws in the ball by 35-21. The first girls’ match of the day, RIS vs CJCS, and RIS falls out, way behind, to a saddening score of 24-1, leaving a triumphant CJCS ahead. The last girls’ match for the evening was played by MIJS against IJHS, as IJHS closed it by winning, at 17-15.
