The engaging children’s multilingual storybook can teach children up to three languages while using audiovisual aids to increase comprehension and memory skills in children.

Research has shown that young readers have a significant advantage over children who don’t read. Reading helps increase their vocabulary, listening skills, comprehension skills, and literacy skills. A reading habit gives children a headstart and a leading advantage. They develop a sound knowledge base through vocabulary, then develop comprehension skills by understanding meanings and processes in the text. Also, research suggests that children who grow up bilingual or multilingual have many advantages over children who grow up knowing a single language.

It has become apparent that multilingual children have better cognitive skills than monolingual children. Multilingual children also tend to perform better between task optimization and task switching. Learning a foreign language earlier in life leads to better and diversified vocabulary, a better understanding and adoption of accents, better memory and recall skills, and high grammatical proficiency. Multilingual children also generalize information better related to complex events and processes and possess better language processing skills in real-time.

The multilingual books series, The Cat, the Fish, and the Waiter, can help parents kill two birds with one stone, meaning, they can help their children refine their reading and comprehension skills while learning a new language. The audiovisual feature can help improve comprehension skills, listening skills and improve pronunciation in different languages.

Marianna Bergues is the author of this unique book series. She got the idea for the book from a story her father used to read to her while she was a child. She began writing this book while she was in high school and self-published it not long after. Marriana gave the story a compelling narrative and gave it a conclusive ending to make it more entertaining and memorable for young readers.

In conversation with the writer, she said to us, “I grew up in a culturally diverse household. With my mother being from Uganda and my father from France, I grew up with a love for learning and reading. Since my mom homeschooled me until the 11th grade, I spent my free time after school work, with my nose buried in a storybook, or creating my own stories in my head. One of my favorite stories was one that my father used to tell about a friend from France who lost both pets, a cat and a fish, in one day. And I never liked the ending. So I decided to write a much more satisfactory ending. What I have realized is, many parents want their children to learn more and succeed in life and academics. And my mom was a big advocate of sharing the love knowledge of teaching children a foreign language through storytelling. She saw this as a fortuitous opportunity to teach the world. Because growing up in a multilingual household opened many doors for me intellectually and academically. And gave me a profound understanding of global cultures and perspective.”

The Cat, the Fish, and the Waiter is available in Korean, Japanese, Hebrew, French, Italian, German, Arabic, and more in audiobook, paperback, and hardcover formats.
