Cannabliss, the Florida-based wholesale distributor of medical and legal recreational marijuana products says that a law which decriminalizes possession of up to one ounce of marijuana in the US state of Delaware has been well-received.

Marijuana decriminalization legislation passed in June last year and adopted in mid-December made Delaware the 19th state to do away with the threat of jail for possession of cannabis.

“We think Delaware’s taken a very common sense approach to dealing with possession of cannabis for personal use. It’s a travesty that adults can have prospects for employment ruined by the stigma of a criminal conviction for possessing a substance that is less harmful than alcohol. It’s a victory for users and for the taxpayers who will no longer have to foot the bill for holding people who have no business being inmates,” explained Brad Flint, press spokesman for Cannabliss.

While conducting research for marketing purposes in Dover, Delaware, Cannabliss spoke to 120 residents to gauge their reaction to the decriminalization. 82% were satisfied with the fact that under the new legislation, possession of up to one ounce of marijuana is now treated as a civil violation rather than a misdemeanor and attract a maximum fine of $100.

“Those we spoke to were also pleased that law enforcement resources would be better deployed to tackle serious crime and many expressed a desire to see marijuana treated in much the same way as alcohol which is taxed and quality controlled since it could augment state tax revenues,” said Flint.
