A survey published this week shows that a record high percentage of Americans support the legalization of marijuana. According to the poll conducted by the Associated Press and the University of Chicago, 61% say they support legalization.

After posing the question, “Do you think the use of marijuana should be made legal, or not?” the survey, followed up with another, the answers to which revealed nuanced division among respondents on those that marijuana should be available to and the amounts they should be permitted to buy.

24% of those supporting legalization said that marijuana should only be available to those with a physician’s prescription. 43% felt that restrictions should be imposed on the amounts that could be purchased while 33% said there should be no restriction on saleable amounts at all.

“Clearly, there’s some difference of opinion among supporters but, ultimately, the support for the core issue is incredibly strong,” said Brad Flint, Cannabliss’ marketing spokesperson.

The Florida based medical and recreational marijuana products distributor will only dispense cannabis-infused edibles from its proposed 22 retail outlets to those with medical prescriptions but it says it would welcome the opportunity to sell cannabis in other forms to recreational users if doing so did not break any laws.

“Americans are ready for this,” Flint explained. “They’re knowledgeable and they realize cannabis does less harm that alcohol which is freely available as we all know. Moreover, the fact that every major presidential candidate, Republican or Democrat, has pledged to allow states set their own marijuana legislation, suggests that attitudes have fundamentally changed towards it.”
