Pygmy Goats at Candlelight Forest

Introducing our three newest residents at Candlelight Forest, the pygmy goats!

We’ve got an exciting announcement to make. Candlelight Forest just got three brand new, furry residents. They’re small and they have hooves, long ears, and short tails. Can you guess what they are?

They’re pygmy goats!

Our pygmy goats are so sweet and they love attention from our residents and visitors. If you go up to their pen, they’ll run to greet you. Their favorite thing to do is eat cracked corn - a yummy treat for a goat. They like to hop and skip around their pen for exercise, and sometimes you can catch them playing together. They live happily with our chickens in the pen behind our farm stand, the Plucky Peacock.

We’ll introduce each goat to you so you can get to know them better!

The first goat’s name is Clarabelle. She has brown fur with white patches and long ears that droop. She is the largest pygmy goat we have, and the most vocal!

The second goat’s name is Chick. She has black and white fur and a white fluffy tail like a rabbit. She is our medium-sized goat.

Our smallest goat’s name is Pyg. She has mostly black fur with a few white patches and a sweet disposition.

Pygmy goats range from 15 to 20 inches in height, and adults have an average weight of 40 to 50 pounds. Pygmy goats are a very popular breed of domestic goat because of their docility and adaptability. These goats can live happily in nearly any climate, and they require very little care or shelter. They are also very friendly and can make great pets. Many people purchase pygmy goats as companion animals or as farm animals for use of their milk.

At Candlelight Forest and Cloudland Station, we value time spent in nature. That’s why we adopted our pygmy goats. We want our residents and visitors to interact with these cute, friendly animals and make friends with them, all the while spending quality time outdoors. If you come to visit Candlelight Forest, make sure you check out our brand new pygmy goats. If you give them pets and show them some love, they make just give you a friendly nibble in return!
