While not every student takes advantage of the experience, there are many students every year that opt for student exchanges or study abroad opportunities. American students study language and culture in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America every year. One of the best benefits to spending time overseas is learning how cultural and societal expectations are learned.

"My time in France as a part of the TAPIF program allowed me to explore culture, to make friendships, to deepen my language abilities and to navigate work life in my non-native language.," says Cambray Provo.

Cambray Provo was one of many young adults who decided to step outside their comfort zone and spend time overseas. "I chose to teach English overseas. I applied to teach English in France and was chosen by the French Ministry of Education program. I served as a teaching assistant in Limoges, France from 2011 to 2012," says Cambray Provo.

Cambray Provo like anyone who spends time living in another country had to adjust to living in a new environment. "I was selected to teach in Limoges France," she says. When she was placed in Limoges, Cambray Provo taught English at three professional high schools. "The high schools had specialty degree students. They specialized in culinary, graphic design, and print media. I had to tailor my lesson plans to meet the professional needs of the students' degree classifications," recalls Cambray Provo.

Cambray Provo traveled abroad to Europe to teach English. She recommends everyone take time to visit a foreign country. "My two biggest motivators were to deepen my French language ability and to take a year to immerse myself in teaching and French culture.," says Cambray Provo. She encourages all students to take advantage of study abroad programs or to teach English for a year after they graduate.
