Being a builder, I'm always curious to learn how others came across my name while searching for local builders in their area. So, I ask "How did you find out about me?" These answers are very creative and could be of great benefit to anyone looking to build a home or find builders in their local area.

5 Tips for Getting Started

Ask your banker This is a common response that I hear and it makes sense, if you really think about it. The local banker will underwrite many home loans for builders and home buyers in your region. The banker will know if the builder was within budget or exceeded it by $30,000. He/she can tell which builders are in financial trouble from which builders. Many local banks require that custom builders be "qualified" or maintain an approved local builders list. Referring to your banker is a good place to start. He/she won't recommend builders who aren't top-quality. Banks want satisfied customers. This means that they will recommend custom builders who are able to deliver on time and within budget.
Open Houses/Realtor Come to open houses for custom-built homes that have been built in your local area. You will be able to assess the quality of a particular custom builder. The home's materials and workmanship will begin to age after three years. Ask the realtor if you are interested in the home and if the builder is someone you like or dislike. Most likely, the realtor will know the answer.
Friends Stories about bad contractors spread quicker than a forest fire. If a builder goes thousands of dollars over budget, you would warn your friends and get a second mortgage. Ask your friends and colleagues if they have any recommendations for local residential contractors.
Websites of Home Building Associations Each county and city has one. These associations can give a list to local builders who are members. These organizations are great resources for home builders because they will have a list of credible home builders.
NAHB stands for National Association of Home Builders
Your State HBA
The HBA of your City or County
Your State Home Builder Licensure Board/Agency
Architect or Draftsman Ask your local architect or draftsman for a list local residential contractors. Ask them if they can recommend a few builders who would suit your budget, personality, and home size. Your draftsman will have been familiar with your style since the planning stage. They may be able to recommend local builders for the bidding process. For more detail visit https://builtblackbriar.com/.
