Quinton de Kock has been named as the ODI captain of South Africa cricket team for the three-match home series against England. The former captain Faf du Plessis in fact has not found any place in the squad.

Quinton de Kock replaces Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis who has been a good captain for South Africa so har has faced a tough time in recent past.

Under him the Proteas had a terrible World Cup winning only three of their nine games and failing to make to the semi-final stage. In 39 matches overall South Africa have won 28 matches under him with an average of 57.62 as captain. On the other hand, Quinton de Kock has led South Africa in the T20I series during their India tour and managed to level the series 1-1.

Faf’s retirement from international cricket has been doing rounds for quite a sometime now and the man in question recently has hinted of playing his last home Test in the ongoing series against England.
Smith calls de Kock street smart

Graeme Smith, the CSA Acting Director of Cricket sounded confident about their call and hoped that de Kock’s unique outlook and manner would help the team.

“We all know the quality of the player that Quinton de Kock has grown to become. Over the years, we have watched him grow in confidence and become one of the top ODI wicket-keeper batsmen in the world. He has a unique outlook and manner in which he goes about his business and is tactically very street smart.”
England are leading the Test series 2-1 and will face the Proteas for the three-match ODI series starting on
February 4 in Cape Town.
