Things to consider in Bedroom Remodeling

Posted November 26, 2012 by BritneyW

Remodeling a bedroom is one of the best things you can do to appreciate the value of your home. It also has a variety of advantages like making the space more efficient, functional & livable.

The first step when remodeling a bedroom is to determine what functionality it will need. Do you need to have a desk, do you want a TV, or do you want to create a place where you leave the rest of the world outside? Once you determine the pieces of furniture you will need, the next step will be to choose a color theme. Since the bedroom is usually separate from the rest of the house the world is your oyster when it comes to color. If you are having trouble, think about what colors you look best in and start your remodel from there. You may want to work with soft subtle colors on your walls and highlight the room with bold accent colors in pillows and other accessories. Another great way to choose a color theme is to find a painting or picture that you love and work with the colors contained in that picture to create a palate. Once you have decided on a color the next step is to create a focal point and many times that revolves around the bed.

There are many options when it comes to choosing a bed and often times your budget will be an important consideration. If you can afford it, go furniture shopping and buy the best mattress and headboard/footboard you can find. When you think about it, you spend at least one third of your life in your bedroom so you want to be comfortable and happy. If you are on a limited budget there are a number of ways to spice up your bed without breaking the bank. First, you can order a mattress topper for comfort and then you can go to the store and purchase a piece of plywood. A bit of foam, batting and fabric can be stapled neatly around this plywood and you have created a unique headboard for under $100. Add a coordinating bed skirt and a down comforter and some fun throw pillows and you are well on your way to a beautiful new bedroom.

The next area of the bedroom remodel to address will be the windows. Determine if you prefer your room completely dark or if you like the light to filter in at dawn. Draperies should blend in with your walls and will add warmth to your bedroom. You may consider sheers for a more whimsical design. Once you have completed the windows and bed, it will be time to accessorize.

On the top of this list will be lighting, pictures and wall art. Beautiful lamps next to a bed can create the kind of mood you want especially those with dimmers. If you are in an environment where temperatures are hot, consider installing an overhead fan above your bed to circulate air. Gather up some of your favorite pictures and have them enlarged and framed to hand on the wall. Find pictures and objects that bring you great joy and display them around your bedroom. Add some coordinating candles and a beautiful throw at the end of your bed and you have just created a beautiful haven to unwind and relax at the end of a long day.
