[b]Bishop Demetrios[/b] is the auxiliary bishop [b]of Mokissos[/b] of the Ecumenical Patriarchate serving in the United States, and the Protosyngellos (Chancellor) of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA. Here, he heads the nominations committee of the Board.

[b]Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos[/b] was born to first generation of Greek-American, Christos and Merope Kantzavelos. He obtained his graduate divinity degree “with high distinction” in 1987 from Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. After his graduation, he pursued his post graduation doctorate work in the area of metaphysics from Chicago's Loyola University.

[b]About Bishop Demetrios[/b]

Bishop Demetrios was born to first-generation Greek American family, Merope and the late Christ J. Kantzavelos. He attended Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, and attained a degree in divinity. After his graduation, he went for his post-graduation in the area of metaphysics, in the philosophy program of Chicago's Loyola University. In 1992, Demetrios ordained to the priesthood, and in 1995, was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. He was consecrated as the Bishop of Mokissos on December 9, 2006. He even had established the Bishop's Task Force on AIDS, the first formal Orthodox Christian response to this epidemic in the western dimension. He has also led many Hellenic organizations and cultural events.
