If you are shopping for a Miter Saw Stand you will find dozens of choices. How do you pick the right one for your usage? In this article I will go over a few things you need to think about to pick the right Miter Saw Stand to use.

First let me explain what a Miter Saw is. There are many names you can call them such as a Miter Saw, Mitre Saw, or even a Chop Saw. They are basically one in the same, just different names for the same type of saw. The type of Stand you will want will depend more on how and where you use your saw rather than the exact type of saw you use.

For some people they use their Miter Saw in their Garage and they want it to fold out of the way when not in use. Many Stands have folding legs so they can be folded down to a small size and the saw removed to be stored. You don't need big wheels since you are not moving the saw over long distance. You can also look at some of the stands that have small hard rubber wheels that are best suited to roll over hard surfaces.

Some people take their work to the job site and they care more about portability of the Miter Saw Stand. If this is you, you may want to check out models that have large pneumatic wheels that can roll over unfinished surfaces. Some of these models even carry the saw. It's like rolling around with a hand truck that folds up to be the work bench when you arrive to your job site.

Another big factor in picking out the right Miter Saw Stand is the length of the material you want to cut. Some stands hold the miter saw and the material is supported by the saw only. This is useful if you plan on cutting small pieces of 6 ft or under. If you plan on cutting longer material then you will want to match the Miter Saw Stand to your needs. They can range in size from models that hold 10 ft to 18 ft of material and up to 1000 lb loads. If you want to cut even longer material then you can combine some models and use them to hold the saw while the second one is used as a saw horse to support the material. You can buy additional support stands as needed.

This brings up the other part of the portability factor... weight. The Miter Saw Stand can weigh as little as 15 lbs or as much as 100 lbs and that is before you add the weight of the Miter Saw itself. So even if it has big wheels and can roll over almost any surface, how are you going to unload it when you get there? Do you have a helper, or will you have ramps to roll it down. Now I know some of you are saying you can unload it without any help, I am just saying as I get older, over the long haul I have to think ahead about these issues. My back isn't getting any younger.

So you can see that picking the right Miter Saw Stand really is dependent on how and where you are going to use it. By matching the Saw Stand to your job requirements you will get a lot more out of your Miter Saw and it's stand over years of use. I recommend you spend a little time reading reviews from real customers to help figure out which Stand will work best for you. There are a couple of models that I would not buy after reading customer feedback.
