The Process Selecting Timber for Your Deck

This press release gives the information about the company Making a for excellent decking timber while others do not.

Timber is in two broad categories- the hardwood and soft woods. These terms tend to be confusing for most people as they don’t directly refer to the type of tree hardness from which they come. Softwood species are sourced from coniferous evergreen trees while the hardwoods are sourced from trees that are broadleaved. Each group has several sub-species of wood with some making for excellent decking timber while others do not. The key is in selecting wood that will be most suited and durable for outdoors. The timber should be resistant to conditions that may cause it to decay.

Softwood is used as the most popular timber decking since it is cheaper and easy to work with in comparison to hardwoods. However, the hardwoods have colors that are not only rich but very attractive which adds to their appeal in a great way. Hardwoods are naturally durable and have higher densities with equally higher resistance to abrasion. These attributes of hardwoods form the basis for their being used on commercial projects meant for heavy and frequent use.

Timber decking Sutherland factories sell pressure treated softwood or hardwood for decks which provide equal performance. The pressure treated softwood types are usually used for the decks substructure irrespective of the material used on the deck board. Some countries require that the factories specify the pressure treated softwoods along with a service life time period of 15, 30 or 60 years. The default specification in the industry is 15 years. If you require species that have a longer time period then you will need to request the factory beforehand for the order to be prepared. Some timber decking suppliers offer warranties that are long-term for their decking components. It is advisable to always request for written confirmation on the standards that the timber that you buy meets.

Preservation of timber

Softwood species that are grouped as non-durable or semi are required to be pressure treated in a preservative that is approved to offer the services lives needed for various uses such as decking. The amount of protection of the preservative required is regulated by its intended utilization situation and final utilization is categorized in accordance to a system referred to as a Use Class in some countries. Timber meant for building requires less protection than that exposed to outdoor elements. It is critical that you request your timber supplier to specify in writing, the suitable Use Class for the desired service life.
