Cosmetics are compounded mixtures of various raw materials that have been rationally formulated.  According to the raw material properties and uses of cosmetics, it can be roughly divided into belowing categories.

Synthetic material

Refers to modified fats and oils that have been processed and synthesized from various oils or raw materials. They not only have similar composition and raw material oils, but also maintain their advantages, but in terms of purity, physical shape, chemical stability, microbial stability and skin irritation. The skin absorption and the like have been significantly improved and improved, and therefore, it has been widely used in various cosmetics. Commonly used synthetic oils and fats are: squalane, lanolin derivatives, polysiloxanes, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty acid esters, and the like.

Lanolin derivative

The lanolin derivative is a series of derivatives of lanolin. Including: wool alcohol, lanolin acid, pure wool wax, acetic acid wool wax, acetylated wool alcohol, polyoxyethylene hydrogenated lanolin and so on. Wool is light yellow to light brown waxy solid, slightly odorous, insoluble in water, better than lanolin, widely used in various cosmetics, such as baby products, dry skin and skin care products, creams, lotions, etc. Lanolinic acid has a good moisturizing effect on the skin and is commonly used in shaving creams. Pure wool wax has good stability, easy absorption, and good emollient. Therefore, it is mainly used for emulsifying products such as creams and ointments. Acetylated wool wax is mild, safe and reliable. It is often used in re-emulsion, cream skin care products and sunscreen cosmetics. It is mixed with mineral oil and used in baby oil, bath, lip balm, hair oil and hair gel. Polyoxyethylene hydrogenated lanolin is a milky white, slightly odorous, waxy solid obtained by the addition reaction of hydrogenated lanolin with ethylene oxide. High stability, good water absorption, suitable for perm, hydrogen peroxide paste, etc. It is also used in lipsticks, conditioners and various creams and emulsion products.

Polysiloxane

Also known as silicone oil or silicone. It and its derivatives are a high-quality raw material for cosmetics. It has physiological inertness and good chemical stability, is odorless, non-toxic, non-irritating to the skin, and has good skin care functions. It has lubricating property, anti-ultraviolet radiation effect, good gas permeability, slow release effect on flavor and fragrance, good antistatic property, obvious dustproof function, high stability, and does not affect matching with other components. Commonly used are polydimethylsiloxane, polymethylphenylsiloxane, cyclic polysiloxane and the like. Because of its good softness, polydimethylsiloxane often replaces traditional oily raw materials such as paraffin and vaseline in cosmetics, such as creams, lotions, lipsticks, eyeshadows, mascaras, shampoos, etc. Polymethylphenylsiloxane is a colorless or light-yellow transparent liquid. It has good skin permeability and good skin feel after use. It can increase the softness of the skin, deepen the color of the hair and maintain natural luster. It is commonly used in high-grade skin care products. And beauty cosmetics. The cyclic polysiloxane has low viscosity and good volatility, and is mainly used in cosmetics, such as creams, lotions, bath oils, shampoos, colognes, stick cosmetics, and sweat products.

Fatty acid

There are various kinds of raw materials for cosmetics, such as lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, isostearic acid, fats and the like. Fatty acid is a raw material for cosmetics, mainly combined with potassium hydroxide or triethanolamine to form soap as an emulsifier. Lauric acid, also known as dodecanoic acid, is a white crystalline waxy solid. In cosmetics, lauric acid and sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or triethanolamine are generally neutralized to form soap, as an emulsifier and dispersant for cosmetics. It has good foaming properties and stable foam. It is mainly used in shampoos, facial cleansers and shaving creams. Myristic acid and lauric acid are used in the same range and are mainly used as raw materials for facial cleansers and shaving creams. Palmitic acid is a raw material for creams, lotions, surfactants, and fats and oils. Stearic acid and fat are raw materials for creams, hair creams, lotions and lipsticks, and surfactants.

Fatty alcohol

As a raw material for oils and fats, mainly C12-C18 high-grade fatty alcohols, such as lauryl alcohol, whale alcohol, stearyl alcohol, etc. as humectants; propylene glycol, glycerol, sorbitol, etc. can be used as a viscosity agent, a reducing agent, a qualitative agent and a fragrance. The solvent is used in cosmetics. Lauryl alcohol is rarely used directly in cosmetics, and is often used as a surfactant; w-propanol is widely used as a basic oil and fat raw material for creams and lotions. Stearyl alcohol is the basic raw material for preparing creams and lotions, and is used in the production of lipstick products in combination with cetyl alcohol.

Fatty acid fat

Mostly high fatty acids and low molecular weight monohydric alcohols are formed. Its characteristics are miscible with oil, low viscosity, good ductility, good permeability to skin, and widely used in cosmetics. Butyl stearate is a raw material for nail polish and lipstick; isopropyl myristate and isopropyl palmitate can be used in hair care, skin care and cosmetics; isooctyl stearate is mainly used in cream products.
