The team at Huntington at Hunters Ridge has learned an important lesson in developing a 55 and older community.

While it is clear simplicity and convenience are essentials of retirement, an active lifestyle is not necessarily important to all.

Conceptual development of Huntington looked very like most 55 and older housing developments. Early plans included plenty of amenities, a giant clubhouse, a variety opportunities for frequent socializing and activity right on site, along with the convenience of zero-maintenance living.

However, the amenities for this kind of lifestyle were not part of the initial build-out and would have to come later in the sales process. Because of this, sales had to be made based on what the buyer could see: new homes located in Volusia County’s tranquil countryside with easy accessibility to the goods and services of Ormond Beach.

Sales started slowly, but finally increased once the community management embraced a new approach.
