Birla Academy of Art & Culture has taken the initiative to give a boost to the Indian textile industry and has arranged for a curatorial talk between 20th-22nd May, 2016, at Sarala Birla Gallery.

 
The Indian history of textiles and fabric designing and production is very rich. It is also nuanced as the fascinating range of delicate and complex work of woven, spun, embellished and dyed textiles that exude beauty, artistry, creative acumen and unique designs. Being a true connoisseur of great art and refined Indian cultural works and renditions, Birla Academy of Art & Culture proudly organizes a Curatorial Talk on the “Revival of Indian Embroideries and Textiles” by Asif Shaikh in the Kolkata. This event will deal with an in-depth understand of fine Indian textile and embroidery work that is of delight not only to art lovers but also designers.

The Curatorial Talk on the “Revival of Indian Embroideries and Textiles” facilitated by Asif Shaikh will be taking place on Sarala Birla Gallery (1st Floor) between May 20th and May 22nd 2016. The time for this talk has been fixated between 3:00 pm to 8:00pm. Interested audience and art lovers can enquire about this talk both online and offline and accordingly attend. The talk would concentrate on the collection and Indian textile and embroidery work that have been showcased in the recently held exhibition on the same theme by Birla Academy of Art & Culture.

“The Curatorial Talk on the ‘Revival of Indian Embroideries and Textiles’ aims to give the audience a fair idea about the diverse and unique textile works that has been prevalent and emerging in the Indian textile landscape. It throws light of multiple works like the Kalamkari panel with Aari embroidery work, Ajrakh jackets, Bandhani with Aari embroidery and many more. The objective is to update the richness of the design, the intricacy of the artworks and the creative splurge and mix of vibrant colours that makes Indian textiles and embroideries prominent in the global designing and art arena”, asserted a spokesperson speaking on this occasion.

In addition to all these, this talk will also throws light on some of rare works done by our Indian artists. A notable work in this regard is the “Navkar Mantra on Bandhani” fabric. This mantra is a core mantra of Jainism and to have it on Bandhani fabric required creative thought and precision, which makes it quite an artistic breakthrough in the field of Indian textiles and fabrics. The other unique work is the Parsi designed embroidery that exudes delicate beauty, refined stitches and a subtle but sparkling look that pleases the eye. The exhibition for the same also showcases sarees and dupattas for sale made by Indian artists.
