Manchester City was hands-down the better team when they played West Ham. However, winning via a very dubious penalty is still a bit of a let-off. Obviously, the changes made distorted Manchester City’s flow (although that should be the trademark of Champions) and the loss of Fernandinho could leave a big hole in the centre of midfield – Manchester City’s bad run earlier in the season was partially attributed to his absence. Regardless, winning is all that matters in the pursuit of the League right now. Pep Guardiola would not mind and neither would the fans and players.
The race for the top four gets hotter with every match-day..
With Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea – with a game in hand – winning over the weekend, we still have no clear idea of who would be in the Champions League come season end. Heck, if Tottenham continues at the same rate in which their last two games were played, then there could also be a battle for third spot as well. Looking like a very good League all round.
Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final..
Barcelona convincingly came out on top in two semi-final El-Clasicos winning 3-0 o the night and 4-1 on aggregate. The 3-0 score-line is a little flattering as Real Madrid created loads of chances and could have easily scored goals earlier on save for some very woeful finishing by them. Vinicius was a threat all through the encounter and some could say that his youthful exuberance cost Real Madrid.
For Barcelona, it is another chance to win another trophy. They play Valencia for that.
Chelsea comes out on top…..
If you saw this game, you would think that it was Tottenham that played 120 gruelling minutes in a final on Sunday. Chelsea’s performance was filled with lots of energy and lots of running. Hazard was not at his best most likely because he was still tired from his blistering display on Sunday.
Chelsea seems to have turned a corner and have really upped their performances since their embarrassing defeat to Manchester City (and to a lesser extent, Manchester United). Now, the results seem to be trickling in and if they continue to play this way, then the chance for a top four finish is still in their hands.
For Tottenham, this is their second consecutive loss, particularly in a crucial time in the League. Lose on Saturday, and they would have lost three straight games. It could get worse: Lose to their arch-rivals on Saturday and they will only be a point ahead of them.
