Do Fitness Magazines Really Care If You Succeed? Do Fitness Magazines Really Care If You Succeed?

Nowadays, as well as there being a publication for just about every interest you can think of from fly fishing to buying the ultimate caravan there are numerous magazines geared toward improving health and fitness.

Part of me would like to think these magazines are aiming to do some good, but the rational side thinks they offer false promises and a sprinkle of useful information to keep you coming back for more.

The majority of the individuals purchasing these magazines will not look like the person on the front cover, but will be tempted into buying the magazine based on the promise that the model in question followed the "workout of the month" and ended up looking that way.

Now we all know that really isn't the case and if these magazines will try to pull the wool over your eyes in this way should you really believe anything they say?

Before moving into the fitness industry I as a keen 18 year old digested numerous editions of the main magazine for males looking to get in shape (no names mentioned) and found that although there was some OK sounding information in there, they basically made promises that to me now border on the crazy.

The problem with these magazines is that they initially aim to make you feel inferior by only having pictures in of people who are in great shape to begin with and would probably benefit from these workouts, but let's be honest these people do not make up the readership and have probably never touched one of the workouts in the magazines in question. And I'm not even going to get started on some of the blatant airbrushing techniques that are used just to make you feel that bit more inadequate. So from the off you're feeling inferior as you're having someone else dictate what your idea of a good physique is. Cleverly these magazines know that some if not most individuals will never achieve the physique of the cover model but when given enough false hope will keep coming back for more.

This may sound like a bit of a rant but I just think in exchange for your hard earned pennies you should be given something that will realistically benefit you. A good idea may be to conduct your own searches online for credible individuals who genuinely want to help people, and the great thing about the internet is that just about anything you want to find out can be located on the web and usually for free. Why not save your monthly £3.90 glossy magazine money and treat yourself to something that's going to really help you.

You'd be amazed how many highly knowledgeable people you can find through social media such as twitter who are always looking to share their latest findings.
