SGS summarizes GB CLP Regulation proposal for stakeholders

SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at the UK proposal to amend its GB CLP Regulation.

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a summary of a proposed amendment to Great Britain’s (GB) mandatory classification and labeling list under the GB Classification, Labeling and Packaging Regulation (CLP Regulation).

The World Trade Organization (WTO) announced the proposal on August 24, 2023. If accepted, it will impact GB-based manufacturers, importers, downstream users and distributors supplying the GB market. Since Brexit, GB has operated as a separate trading bloc inside the UK and incorporates Scotland, Wales and England.

Important changes include:
• 26 entries for substances added or revised, including the introduction of bisphenol AF (BPAF) – a reprotoxic category 1B substance
• New entry for ‘2-ethylhexanoic acid and its salts with the exception of those specified elsewhere in this list’ added, with a note indicating that, partially, the classification for the hazard class(es) in this entry is based only on the hazardous properties of the part of the substance that is common to all substances in the entry

The amendment is expected to be adopted and enter into force in Q1 of 2024, before becoming a legal requirement in Q3 of 2025.
