SGS looks at an ECHA proposal to expand its list of SVHC from 235 to 240 entries.

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help stakeholders understand the European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) consultation over the listing of six chemicals as substances of very high concern (SVHC).

The six substances are:
1. 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenol (2,4,6-TTBP)
2. 2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol (UV-329)
3. 2-(dimethylamino)-2-[(4-methylphenyl)methyl]-1-[4-(morpholin-4-yl)phenyl]butan-1-one
4. Bumetrizole (UV-326)
5. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
6. Oligomerization and alkylation reaction products of 2-phenylpropene and phenol (OAPP)

These substances have a wide range of uses, including as fuel additives (1), adhesives (2,4,5,6) and in the formulation of rubber (6).

SGS has published SafeGuardS 113.23 to help stakeholders understand the consultation process. It includes details of each of the substances and examples of potential applications.

Stakeholders should review SGS’s original SafeGuardS 113.23 to learn more.

The ECHA launched its 45-day consultation on September 1, 2023, with comments being accepted until October 10, 2023. If approved, the number of SVHC on the Candidate List will expand from 235 to 241 entries.
