Horseracing enthusiast adorns his London cab in Black Caviar colours

Based on my knowledge, she’s as fast as a Ferrari up Fleet Street so there's no risk of her being held up in traffic at Ascot. So my tip is, have a ton on and be lucky.

Black Caviar, the Australian winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, had some local backing during the fixture thanks to a sports-mad London taxi driver who decorated his cab in the racehorse's colours.

Paul Gardiner, 48, is a big fan of Black Caviar, who won her 22nd consecutive race at the prestigious horseracing event last week. To show his support, Paul adorned his cab in the sprint champion's well-known salmon pink and black spots silks design.

Commenting ahead of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, he said: "I rank her the best in the world. Based on my knowledge, she’s as fast as a Ferrari up Fleet Street so there's no risk of her being held up in traffic at Ascot. So my tip is, have a ton on and be lucky."

Anyone who followed his advice would've been very happy on Saturday 23 June as Black Caviar survived a late mistake by her jockey, Luke Nolen, to win the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. The 32-year-old jockey appeared to allow Black Caviar to coast unaided over the final 100 yards, which almost led to her being caught by two other horses.

Thankfully, the world's fastest racehorse maintained her lead long enough and a fun day out was had by Paul and the all the other fans who came to see the 'wonder from down under' claim victory.

A spokesperson for Lovetheraces.com, the website run by the British Horseracing Authority, said: "As always, Royal Ascot proved to be an amazing fixture that attracted a global audience, including many Black Caviar fans. There was plenty of drama around her race, which made for lots of excitement and nerves for those who had come to see her win. Thankfully for them, she kept her nose in front! It all goes to show how much of a fun day out horseracing offers."

Royal Ascot is one of the most popular racing events in the world and is full of amazing tradition. Coinciding with Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Royal Ascot 2012 will be one that lives long in the memory.
