In oil drilling and production operations, screen pipe is an important equipment, and early completion or oil production is often used to prevent sand. At present, the most commonly used screen pipe is wire-wound screen pipe. The manufacturing method of this screen pipe is: winding a certain cross-section of steel wire evenly distributed on the surrounding screen rods or on the metal liner with holes and welding it firmly, and leaving a certain gap as the screen hole. Although this manufacturing method has been used by many manufacturers in China, this screen pipe has some problems when going down the well, especially when the strong pressure passes through the bend section of the high-angle well or horizontal well, it is inevitable to collide, squeeze and rub with the well wall or casing, and it is easy to have "messy wire" phenomenon, causing damage to the screen pipe or deformation of the gap, resulting in reduced completion quality and sand control effect or failure. In response to this drawback of wire-wound screen pipe, a slotted screen pipe with pipe and slot integrated has appeared. Due to its superior performance and low price, slotted screen pipes have been highly valued and widely adopted by major oil fields since their appearance. It can be seen that the emergence of slotted screen pipes has provided material conditions for the development of horizontal wells and side drilling wells and the oil exploitation of high sand reservoirs.

There are several traditional processing methods for oil slotted screen pipes: Method 1: Metal block inlay method: Its manufacturing process is to use machinery to machine an opening much wider than the predetermined requirement at the slot on the pipe, and then embed a slightly narrower metal block in the opening and weld it to form a slot. This method has many processes, low efficiency, high cost, and sometimes affects the strength of the screen pipe. Method 2: Electrochemical and mechanical processing composite processing method: Its processing process is roughly as follows: Using the principle of electrochemical corrosion, a blind groove with the same size as the slot is corroded on the inner wall of the pipe, and then an ultrasonic thickness gauge is used to measure the center line of the groove without contact on the outer wall of the pipe. Finally, a milling cutter is used to mill through the blind groove to form a slot. This method is inefficient, and the subsequent cleaning task is heavy, and it is basically not suitable for mass production. Method 3: Ceramic blade cutting method: The processing method is to use a ceramic blade to "mill" the slit. The key to this method is the manufacturing process of the ceramic blade. Although this method currently has a certain scope of use, it has the following disadvantages: low efficiency, high cost, slow blade feed speed and easy to damage and need frequent replacement, single slit shape, can not cut trapezoidal slits, curved slits and broken line slits. Method 4: Laser cutting method: The processing method is to use a laser beam with extremely high energy density to scan the surface of the oil screen pipe, and cut out qualified slits based on the basic principle of laser cutting. The advantages of this method are that the slit width is regular, there is no slag in the slit, the slit quality is good, and it can also cut out complex slit shapes such as trapezoidal slits, broken line slits, and ultra-wide slits. In addition, laser cutting also has the advantages of low noise, high efficiency and low cost.
