Transportation is so important. People can go anywhere they want easily and quickly with transportation. The available transportation is so varied too. This amphibious technology has known as hovercraft. The other name of this transportation is air cushion vehicle or ACV. Even beside run on the land and water, it can run on the mud or ice too. Although it looks like a car or a ship, the technology of this transportation looks similar with aircraft. It operates by creating a pad with the high pressure air. The high pressure air is between the hull of the vessel and at the surface. But this cushion is flexible. Even it looks like a skirt. Typically this amphibious transportation hover at 200 mm until 600 mm above the surface. Beside it, it can be operated above 20 knot. Even more than it, it can clear gradient until 20°.

The first design of this transportation derived from British invention in 1950 up to 1960. And now, it used specialized in disaster relief, military, coastguard even for passenger service. Because of the flexibility of this transportation, it can be used to survey too.

This amphibious transportation can be powered by one or more engines. For the small craft like SR N6, it just powered by one engine. But for the bigger craft, there is more engine to lift up the craft and to make it go forward. In this time, hovercraft used for many things. Beside it uses as a commercial transportation, it also used as noncommercial, military and sport transportation. Beside it, hovercraft also used for hover barge, hover trains even for non-transportation.

Hovercraft is a unique transportation. But it also has some weakness. The weakness of hovercraft is about the energy consumption. It needs so much fuel. This is why in 1960 and 1970 there are many commercial hovercraft find the alternative transportation.

Hovercraft is the great invention. The technology is so useful and change the world. Water, land, ice or mud surface is not a bug problem. With this transportation, those surface can be passed easily like flying on it. This is why it becomes one of the comfortable transportation for any land surface.
