GLENDALE, Ariz. (Sept. 2023) — The Arizona Winds kicks off another blockbuster concert season for 2023-2024 with its first concert, “Spooktacular”, on Sunday, October 15th. This multi-media program sets the stage for the upcoming Halloween season with film soundtracks and video clips featuring ten iconic movie favorites. The popular band returns to the West Valley's premier venue, Vista Center for the Arts in Surprise, to celebrate its 49th year as an Arizona cultural institution.
“Spooktacular” opens with a look back to the classic 1935 Boris Karloff “Frankenstein” sequel, “The Bride of Frankenstein”. The musical score was written by the highly acclaimed classically trained film score composer Franz Waxman. The program also features musical scores and video from “Godzilla”, the iconic giant reptile; “King Kong”, the fierce, yet surprisingly tender-hearted gorilla monster; the award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Phantom of the Opera"; “The Gremlins”; “Beetlejuice”; “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”; “Casper”; “Back to the Future”; and “Batman”.
Audience members are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to help the band set the stage for a “Spooktacular” concert experience!
The remainder of the band’s 2023-2024 concert season includes “A Yuletide Tapestry”, December 10th; “Romeos and Juliets”, February 19th, featuring trumpeter extraordinaire Dan Reed, and vocalists Barry Dale and Anna Nyhart; a new “Movie Magic” with popular film scores and video, April 14th; and the season finale “Cultural Excursions”, June 2nd, featuring global folk music that will have the audience dancing in the aisles!
