In the United States, there are a variety of laws and regulations in place that cater to the needs and wants of our citizens. One such example is electric bicycle laws.

 
What is an electric bike?

An electric bike is a bicycle with an electric motor that helps the rider pedal. Electric bikes are becoming increasingly popular in the United States as people look for alternative transportation options that are environmentally friendly and economical.

There are currently three classifications of electric bikes:

Class 1 e-bikes have a motor (max 750w) that only provides assistance when the rider is pedaling.
Class 2 e-bikes have a motor (max 750w) that provides assistance even when the rider is not pedaling.
Class 3 e-bikes have a motor (max 750w) that provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling and goes up to 28 mph.
Electric bike laws vary from state to state, so it’s important to know the laws in your state before riding. In general, however, electric bikes are treated like regular bicycles on most roads and trails. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

You must be at least 16 years old to ride an electric bike.
You must wear a helmet while riding an electric bike.
