Cyclone Amphan caused damage to St John’s School destroying a number of classrooms. However, for a brighter future for the children, Yeh Mera India has organized a virtual run to raise funds to rebuild this school.

Kolkata, 15th September 2021: March 2020 changed a lot of things not just in India but across the world. With months of lockdown, the economy went downhill affecting millions in India. But definitely, students seemed to be among the worst affected during this pandemic. With schools shutting down for an uncertain period of time, education has taken a backseat and has many parents questioning their children’s futures.
Today, 250 students of St John’s K.G. School at Amtala are facing a great deal of uncertainty about their future. For the last one and a half years, the students are hardly in touch with their school since online classes are impossible for many due to their family’s financial constraints.
What is worse was the effects of Cyclone Amphan which caused catastrophic damage to the school destroying a number of classrooms totally. Due to the lack of physical infrastructure, as well as school supplies such as desks and chairs, and teaching staff, the school cannot be reopened, hence making it even more difficult for the students to get back to their education.
However, in order to ensure a brighter future for the children of this school, Yeh Mera India, an NGO based in Kolkata has organized a virtual run to raise funds to rebuild this school and bring the light of hope and future to these children.
“Alone we can achieve little but together we can achieve a lot. We hope that our combined effort allows our dream of rebuilding the school to come true. Our aim is to collect total funding of Rupees 20 lacs of which we are able to manage almost Rupees 8 lacs through spontaneous participation from our patrons. We are hopeful that the rest of the amount can also be arranged as of each growing day. We are experiencing new people to come forward and join this initiative. Many individuals have also come forward and lent their support. They are sure with sort of the overwhelming response we are showering with us would be able to rebuild the school soon so that the students can go back to their normal resume”, said Ms Smita Agarwal, founder of Yeh Mera India.
The who’s who of the city has come together is supporting the OXY- Yeh Mera India run for a cause and is all set to gather funds for the school. Teams of people are registering for the event and several runners groups have joined hands to take part in this noble cause.
