This drum is not divided into separate compartment but the first part of the drum is for drying of aggregates in parallel flow design. Parallel flow means that the flow of aggregates and the direction of the burner flame is in one direction.

Bitumen, minerals and other additives are added to the later part of the drum. There are pollution control devices like dry and wet dust types, even bag house filters are available.
