Community Activist Roderick Cunningham to Join Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence

Mr. Cunningham will be one of only two male members a position he is grateful to hold due to a lack of what he describes as consistent male voices in domestic violence awareness circles.

Decatur, GA, August 22, 2013 -- The Beverly Cunningham Outreach Program (BCOP), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) foundation providing counseling, advocacy and rehabilitation services to survivors of domestic violence (DV), is proud to announce CEO Roderick Cunningham’s acceptance to the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV) Board of Directors. The statewide coalition aims to unite member agencies, allied organizations and supportive individuals who are committed to the DV prevention cause.

“We are proud to forge alliances with organizations that are guided by the voice of domestic violence survivors,” said Cunningham. “This membership will allow BCOP to promote and affect positive social change beyond the metro Atlanta level.”

Cunningham’s motivation to end domestic violence comes from an intensely personal place. The passing of his mother, Beverly Cunningham Brown, a domestic violence victim who was murdered by her husband in 2009, inspired him to found what would become the BCOP foundation. Today, as a domestic violence awareness activist and recognized community leader, he works tirelessly to help others avoid suffering a similar fate.

Upon joining the GCADV board, Cunningham will be one of only two male members—a position he is grateful to hold due to a lack of what he describes as consistent male voices in domestic violence awareness circles. He is scheduled to attend his first board meeting on Thursday, August 22, 2013.
