Asheville, NC, February 24, 2014 -- North American Roofing was awarded a 2013 "Excellence in Energy Management" honorable mention for their IKEA Perryville project, by the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing, according to Craig Silvertooth, president of The Center.

Writing in behalf of The Center and RoofPoint™, Silvertooth stated in the award letter that "the project demonstrated a leading application of RoofPoint Energy Management Credits, including roof energy efficiency and rooftop clean energy production." RoofPoint is a voluntary, consensus-based green rating system developed by the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing to provide a means for building owners and designers to select nonresidential roof systems based on long-term energy and environmental benefits.

The North American Roofing Energy Solar Group installed 36,000 solar laminate panels to generate and add 5.2 million megawatts to the power grid.

The project required more than 1.8 million square feet of solar roofing - the equivalent of almost 36 football fields - to be installed on the IKEA distribution center in Perryville, MD.

Now the 3rd largest commercial and industrial roofing company in the United States, since 1979, North American Roofing, Asheville, NC, has been a pioneer in the commercial single-ply roofing industry, specializing in commercial and industrial low-slope roof systems.

Executive Vice President Kelly Wade said, “With our crew capabilities, and the direction our business is going with more national customers wanting solar, this project fit perfectly with North American Roofing’s strategy. Like IKEA, we are focused on sustainability as part of our culture in everything we do.”
