With the COVID-19 pandemic still keeping people from getting back on their feet, the Souths Cares team has once again lent a helping hand to the aboriginal people of South Sydney. As part of their mission to provide community support in Sydney, they distributed a total of 60 grocery hampers across South Eastern Sydney. Among those who received these goods were participants of the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Program, Deadly Youth Mentoring Program, and Aboriginal elders.

Souths Cares is a not-for-profit institution that aims to provide community support in Sydney. Their mission is to address the education, training, health and employment needs of disadvantaged youths and their families. The Souths Cares program is closely affiliated with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

On August 12, 2021, the Souths Cares team delivered 900kgs worth of food to their program participants and aboriginal elders. They provided 22 grocery hampers to the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) program, which helps Aboriginal high school students complete their higher education and achieve their employment goals.

Meanwhile, 18 hampers were also provided to the participants of the Deadly Youth Mentoring Program. This program is a response to the rate of Aboriginal youth in the custody of the NSW Juvenile Justice System. Participants of this program are given six months of intensive mentoring that focus on education, positive social activities, and cultural connections.

South Cares also delivered 20 grocery hampers to Aboriginal elders residing in South Eastern Sydney. The hampers were filled with pantry staples, including fresh fruits and vegetables, pasta, bread, muesli, and more.

The team delivered the goods while practising safety protocols like wearing face masks and observing social distancing. There were also wellbeing check-ins for program participants at each home.

Program participants have also shared their appreciation for Souths Cares. They are thankful for more than just the mentoring but also for the extra support they have received through the food hampers.
