The first T20 between India and New Zealand which was played on Wednesday saw the worst ever defeat in T20 cricket for the Indian cricket team as they lost the match by the huge margin of 80 runs.

The first T20I of the three-match series was played at the Wellington and the visitors won the toss and opt to bowl first. The innings of the host were opened by Tim Seifert and Colin Munro and they put up a partnership of 86 runs as Krunal Pandya took the wicket of Munro. Tim Seifert who was playing his 8th T20I innings made his highest individual score in T20I by scoring 84 (43) before he was bowled by Khaleel Ahmed.

The captain Kane Williamson gave a strong stand to the middle order with Ross Taylor as they made 34 (22) and 23 (14) respectively. Scott Kuggeleijn furiously makes 20 runs off just 7 balls with the help of 3 fours and a six to take his team to 219-6 on the scorecard.

The Indian bowlers were found ineffective as every bowler economy rate was above 8. Hardik Pandya took 2 wickets while giving away 51 runs and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Krunal Pandya and Chahal took 1-1 wickets respectively.

The Indian team want to chase 220 from 120 balls, the opening partnership for the team was broke down in the third over as Tim Southee dismissed the skipper for just 1 run off 5 balls. Vijay Shankar was doing good with Shikhar Dhawan before Dhawan also lost his wicket in the 6th over. From this stage, the wickets of the Indian team started falling as they lost 4 wickets between 9th to 11th over.

After this MS Dhoni and Krunal Pandya were on the crease for balancing the score but as the run-rate was increasing rapidly the pressure was also increasing and they also lost their wickets in 17th and 18th over. The rest two batsmen come to crease lost their wickets in the 19th and 20th over and the Indian team got all out for 139, losing the match by 80 runs.

Tim Southee of New Zealand National Cricket Team took 3 wickets in four overs by giving away just 17 runs.
