Dear ASDIP Customer:

Column base plates are structural elements designed to spread the load in such a way that the bearing pressures at the support are within the allowable limits. Under the presence of biaxial moments, the base plates may be in partial bearing, leading to a complex design.

What is the procedure to design biaxial base plates? Are all anchors effective in tension? Are all anchors effective in shear?

I have prepared a blog post and a short video with a step-by-step biaxial base plate design example using ASDIP STEEL software. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
