BPW Ottawa is organizing the event "The Crunchy and The Smooth" because Arts helps define and empower women. This event is on Nov 18 at 7 pm EST.

BPW Ottawa has created the event “The Crunchy and The Smooth” to use arts to share the realities of being a human being. Arts play a pivotal role in empowering women by improving awareness, granting economic stability, and relieving trauma.

This virtual event will start at 6:45 pm EST on Nov 18; the main event will begin at 7 pm EST. Please register through our Eventbrite page https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/bpw-ottawa-november-virtual-meeting-the-crunchy-and-the-smooth-tickets-168361813717?aff=erelexpmlt

Our key speaker, artist Rosemary Leach, helps her audience learn about life and celebrate lives by allowing them to connect with everyday objects. Rosemary works in her studio in Almonte; see website https://www.rosemaryleach.com/ She is an internationally renowned artist who has showcased her paintings in Canada, US, UK, and Europe.

By compelling us to have an aesthetic response to common objects like bikes or forks, Rosemary intends to show the importance of being human. Her images teach us that it is normal to have emotions and feelings towards ordinary things since doing so is an important aspect of being oneself. Just being able to contemplate about something that is part of our reality improves intelligence, mental health, and quality of life.

BPW Ottawa is part of BPW International. BPW International is a non-profit organization that has Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Council of Europe; it is the member of Civil Society of Organization of American States (OAS); and, it represents women at several organizations including the United Nations, UNESCO, and UNICEF. BPW Ottawa seeks to provide equal status and justice to women by providing awareness, education, advocacy, and mentoring.
