31st May 2011 - Teams are very necessary for the growth and development of any organization. It is necessary to have a strong team to get work done faster and with better quality. A team need not be always large; even three people put together on the same task can be called a team. Every member of a team will not have a single task. Every team also needs a group leader, who delegates the tasks to different members of the team. A member of a team in the office is also a part of the whole organization. Managing the tension of the team as well as normal work is important. If the vitality and functions of the team is going down, it is better to build the team with Team Building Activities.
Team building activities can be either games, or they can be any tasks given within the office or outside. The team activities, tests the individual as well as the group skills of the team and decides the efficiency of the team. Simple games can also be used to build skills in the team. A very famous game used for the purpose of better coordination is the woolly ends game. In this game, each team is given with 4 balls of wool of different colors, and a pack of UNO cards. First the members of the organization have to pick an UNO card each and form a group without speaking. The formed group makes four teams thus.
Then the balls of wool are cut into small pieces and they are all mixed up. Each member of the team should go to the pile me the center of the room and pick up their color and return to the group. This should be followed for a particular time period. The main thing is when the two pieces of wool of the same color are tied together all the members of the team have to stay in the team. Only after one has finished tying one piece, should the next piece be brought.
Once the time period is finished, each team’s rope should be measured and the longest one is given a prize. The main part comes after the game. A discussion is held game and the teams express the problems they faced as a team and how they solved it. Discussing problems in front of everyone gives a variety of solutions. Thus many such activities put together can help in the on-going process of Team Building.
