It’s been twenty years since Arthur Cordes left the Marine Corps and has managed to build a solid career for himself in the hazardous waste removal industry. Mr. Cordes joined the United States Army in 1983 and served for two years before moving over to the Marine Corps where he served for eight years. In 1993, he left the Marine Corps and started working in the hazardous waste removal industry. Skills he picked up in the military helped him build a successful career for himself.

After leaving the Marine Corps in 1993, he started working as a Heavy Equipment Operator at Crossland Heavy Contractors in Columbus, Kansas. He worked on several projects including Farmland Plant expansion in Independence, Kansas; Picher-Cardin Sports Complex in Picher, Oklahoma; Columbus Water Treatment Facility, Columbus, Kansas; Doan’s Paint in Miami, Oklahoma; and Frontenac Sewer Treatment Plant in Frontenac, Kansas.

As a Foreman with Former United Zinc and Associated Smelter, Iola Kansas he supervised two excavation crews and one backfill crew in the removal of lead-contaminated soil. He also managed the backfill, transportation and disposal of contaminated soil for both excavation projects. Though the economic situation might have made it difficult for many former military servicemen and women to find jobs in the civilian market, Arthur Cordes has managed to build a successful career for himself in the hazardous waste removal industry.

His leadership and management skills helped him manage multiple field teams ranging from one to forty personnel, and has managed his teams in effectively cleaning up oil and chemical spills, and fixed facility releases. As professional in the hazardous waste removal industry, he is highly proficient in operating all types of heavy equipment including loaders, bulldozers, scrapers, specialty excavators, graders, and trucks. Over the last two decades, he has worked hard to excel in his job and has prepared and written more than one hundred technical/cost reports. He has always maintained high safety standards and has also worked as a Site Safety officer on several projects. Through hard-work and determination, Arthur Cordes has worked his way to the top and is currently a Site Superintendent.
