Life is a multi-dimensional phenomenon. Single elements cannot complete it. For example, knowing when the Britishers came to India can make you a good historian but this knowledge won't help you open a bank account. Knowing the process of photosynthesis in detail can make you a brilliant scientist but it won't teach you to express your emotions in the right way. In the same manner, knowing the laws of indices can make you a great mathematician but that knowledge will not help you to file your taxes.

We are not undermining what is taught in school. That knowledge is necessary to earn money and make a good living. But to facilitate a child’s development as an adult the child needs to learn some essential life skills as well. Therefore best international schools in Bangalore and elsewhere must include these necessary skills in their curriculum. Continue reading to find out about these skills

Communication

An important factor in your life is communication. Be it your professional or personal life. How many instances have you come across when you were misunderstood? When your words were taken out of context. This is because you did not communicate clearly. This is an art you must be good at if not excel.

Financial literacy

In 1997, Rich dad poor dad, a book by Robert Kiyosaki was released. It was an eye-opener, to say the least. It introduced it’s readers to the concept of financial independence. It’s been more than 20 years now and what’s striking is that most people are either not aware of the concept or simply have never heard about it. The concept of financial independence is of monumental importance given the fact that students have to take astronomical student loans to pursue higher education. Loans that they take a decade to repay.

Emotional quotient

Emotional quotient is the ability to apply emotions and knowledge to improve the thought process. It facilitates accurate reasoning of emotions. Children with higher emotional intelligence go on to have successful careers and fulfilling lives. But this ability is never developed in school.

Nutrition

Today obesity is the biggest problem that plagues humans. More than 135 million people in India are affected by obesity. Now, this problem springs from the fact that students aren't taught the subject of nutrition. If they were taught this subject in the curriculum their eating habits would've been different. This would've resulted in fewer cases of obesity.

Civics
Why is it necessary to learn to be a civilian of a society? Comparing what the planet has witnessed over the ages, we are living in one of the most peaceful and prosperous time. Never before has the planet witnessed such peace and prosperity. But people don't seem to be aware of this fact. Most of them don't know the meaning of republic and democracy. They don't understand the importance of casting their vote. An understanding of our past and our system of governance will bring about better civilians.

Household repairs

I have seen many parents complain that their children don't help in household repairs. The kids are not lazy or apprehensive to help. They simply don't know how to change the tube light, change the gas cylinder, and fix the broken pipe in the bathroom. Where are kids going to learn this? Best IGCSE Schools in Bangalore and elsewhere can introduce a non-graded course that teaches these things.

Schools teach children how to make a living. But they should also teach them the art of living. This will turn them into complete and better individuals.
