Having a bespoke shirt especially made for you is a great experience. Usually, once a client has worn a bespoke shirt they never return to purchasing off the rack. However, when purchasing your first shirt you will be introduced with a variety of fabrics (in terms of material, weaves, pattern and quality) and a raft of customisation options for the collar, cuffs and every other part of the shirt.

It is almost without fail that every newcomer to the world of bespoke goes for something out of the ordinary in respect to collars, fabric and details; however, it is recommended that you keep it simple for the first Bespoke Shirts London. Some things to think about are as follows:

Collars

Collars come in boundless array of shapes and sizes, the most important measurements, however, are the spread, point length and neck-band height. The extremes of collar spreads whilst having their place in most men's wardrobes are not as versatile as something in the middle ground (and in case you have a short or long neck then you would need to stay away from of the extremes altogether). For your first Bespoke Shirts London we would recommend a classic English spread collar, collar points in proportion to your neck size as well as a collar band to suit the selected point size. This collar will suit any face shape.

Shirt-Front

The choice here is Placket, Fly or plain. Any are suitable for a casual shirt, but I we would recommend the placket as the most popular and traditional.

Cuffs

First pick double-cuff or barrel cuff. The double requires cufflinks and is a bit dressier. A barrel cuff with two or three button fastening is versatile (1-button can look a bit sloppy in my view) and would be the preferred option.

Fit

Talk to your London Tailor about the type of fit you desire. They will be able to advice on whether the fit you need is achievable - a shirt should not be body hugging, but that is what lots of customers 'think' that they need. It is better for the first shirt to be over generous in cut than tight which would make it unbearable.

Detail

Avoid any other detail on your first shirt - monograms, contrast stitching, contrast collars and cuffs, pockets - none of these add to the shirt, and reduce the elegance.

Follow these simple ideas and you will have a fine elegant bespoke shirt to be proud of.
