Academic counselor, Anthony Smith of Berkeley, spends his days helping students at Castlemont High School in Oakland, California, navigate the often confusing and stressful process of applying to college. With more than three hundred students on campus, Smith has his hands full. He is responsible for providing the students with personal, academic and social advice along with vocational guidance. For the last year, Smith has been assisting students with class selection and scheduling and supporting students with educational accommodations.

Anthony Smith of Berkeley helps ease some of the confusion by providing the students with the necessary resources and informs them of the different admission guidelines and requirements, ensuring they complete their applications successfully. Even before they start applying to colleges, he is helping them find academic success. From the first day of class, Smith helps the students navigate their understanding of their high school transcripts to ensure they are completing all necessary classes for graduation. He also provides students with letters of recommendation for college admission, scholarship, and internship opportunities.

Anthony Smith of Berkeley is dedicated to helping students achieve academic success and prepare for their futures after graduation. He is trained in Response to Intervention, Restorative Justice, and Restorative Practice. He attends various college information conferences and workshops throughout the year in order to remain up-to-date on the latest admissions requirements and guidelines to ensure his students’ success. He also facilitates class level workshops to help students with the college application process, financial aid process and writing their personal essay statements for college admission.

Anthony Smith Berkeley was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He is an alumnus of Balboa High School, where he also started his career as an academic counselor. He received his Bachelors in Middle Management from San Francisco State University where he later completed his self-contained teacher training. He taught elementary school in the San Francisco Unified School District for five years before heading back to school to earn his Masters. In 2004, he graduated from the University of La Verne with his Masters in School Counseling.
